Mayan Predictions For 2020

So it's no surprise that the newest one is, paradoxically, an old one. The claim is this: The Maya calendar predicts the end of the world, you see, and due to an incorrect calendar conversion it wasn't on 21 December, 2012, as originally thought, but actually on 21 June, 2020. This weekend.

Mayan Predictions For 2020

"So this is so rare and it's going to be on the winter solstice. It's going to be on December 21, 2020. The Mayans are now reorganising and saying this could certainly be the end of the world as we know it."

Even, the CEO of the Dubai Astronomy Group, Hasan Al Hariri called these claims hoax and said that these predictions are highly unscientific and illogical. In an interview with Gulf News, he said, "Science is elegant and beautiful, but it requires an effort to understand. This is a golden opportunity to educate people. Any person with a scientific temperament, not necessarily a scientist, cannot support these types of messages."

Remember all those prophesies just before the Winter Solstice of 2012, when, based on an erroneous reading of the ancient Maya Long Count calendar, the media was filled with predictions that the world was coming to an end?

Yet there are reasons to believe that our July prediction might understate the impact on fertility. Ongoing school closures are putting tremendous strain on families that may reduce their willingness to have more children. Restrictions on public gatherings and social encounters might mean fewer new couplings that could lead to pregnancies, intended or otherwise. The extended nature of this crisis also is likely to create large structural changes in the economy; a sizable share of the jobs lost will be permanent. The longer the duration of the income loss that workers expect, the more likely it is that delayed births will never happen. We did not attempt to make any predictions based on these additional factors because we had no previous context or data from which to draw empirical conclusions.

Yep, another of those apocalypse predictions that have a tendency to come to nothing. This one came from a calendar from the ancient Mayan civilisation, which predicted the end would come on that very date.

Scientist and Fullbright scholar Paolo Tagaloguin posted a now-deleted tweet saying: "Following the Julian Calendar, we are technically in 2012...The number of days lost in a year due to the shift into Gregorian Calendar is 11 days... For 268 years using the Gregorian Calendar (1752-2020) times 11 days = 2,948 days. 2,948 days / 365 days (per year) = 8 years."

However, 11 days of time were said to be lost in civilization's shift from using the Gregorian calendar to the Julian calendar. Over time, the lost days have accumulated, and conspiracists claimed that we should actually be in the year 2012, not 2020.

Before the WNBA's 24th season opens Saturday (ESPN, noon ET) in the bubble at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida, ESPN's panel of experts weigh in with their predictions for how the 2020 campaign will unfold. Which players will stand out? Which teams will lead the pack?

Every year, new apocalyptic predictions waft through the dark fringes of the internet and the tabloid media. In the past couple of years, the world was predicted to end in a supervolcano eruption, an asteroid impact, and a new ice age, to name just a few of the more popular doomsday prophecies.

And yet, as in past years, there is no shortage of fresh end-of-world prophecies for the coming year. The following 2023 predictions are currently particularly trendy among doomsday enthusiasts:

The Tren Maya (sometimes also Mayan Train or Maya Train) is an 1,525-kilometer (948 mi) intercity railway in Mexico that will traverse the Yucatán Peninsula. Its construction began in June 2020 and is scheduled to be completed by late 2023. The railway begins in Palenque in Chiapas and travels northeast towards Cancun in Quintana Roo via two routes that encircle the peninsula. The project aims to connect tourist destinations in the Caribbean with lesser-known sites inland, including historic Mayan sites from which it derives its name

Among churches that posted their sermons, homilies or worship services online between Aug. 31 and Nov. 8, 2020, two-thirds posted at least one message from the pulpit mentioning the election. But discussion varied considerably among the four major Christian groups included in this analysis.

(Inside Science) -- As 2020 finally comes to a close, the staff of Inside Science want to wish happy holidays and a better 2021 to all. This year, the world has seen more than 1.7 million people die from COVID-19 and many more suffer serious, long-lasting symptoms from the disease. Economic effects have devastated families and industries.

One of the earliest recorded predictions of the end of the world came from Simon bar Giora, a member of the Jewish Essenes sect. These years were a period in which the Jews of Judea rose up against the Romans who were in control of the area. The prediction ran that this fight would be the actual end times battle that presaged the coming of the Messiah.

To make a long and rather interesting yet complex story short, The Mayan apocalypse predictions arise from a misunderstanding of the ancient Maya Long Count Calendar, which wraps up a 400-year cycle called a b'ak'tun. On Dec. 21, 2012, the day of the winter solstice just so happens to be the 13th b'ak'tun in the calendar, a benchmark the Maya would have seen as a full cycle of creation.

NFL TV rights fees will significantly increase and will at least double the 40 percent gains seen by MLB in their 2018 extension with FOX and 2020 extension with Turner. A 100 percent increase in NFL TV rights revenue is possible, especially if the NFL carves out an additional package.

Dr. Reyna was nominated for the hidden gem award for his services to the department in 2019 and 2020. While maintaining a full research load he simultaneously covered the teaching load of one faculty who was unable to teach, and stepped in as the director of graduate studies to cover for another who had to step down due to illness. His professionalism throughout this testing period, all during a pivot to remote research and work and while juggling a newborn, demonstrated exactly why we were lucky enough to recently recruit Dr. Reyna on to BMI's Faculty.

Profs. Clifford and Reyna, presented the annual PhysioNet Challenge awards at the Computing in Cardiology 2020 (remotely) in Rimini, Italy. The Challenge focused on Classification of 12-lead ECGs and led to over 61 publications and 67 pieces of contributed open-source software. An editorial describing the Challenge and summarizing the contributions was published in the journal of Physiological Measurement. 2ff7e9595c
