Being an older version it needs some i386 packages that are not going to install by default on Ubuntu 20.04 or 18.04 while installing the Adobe reader, thus we need to get them on our Linux OS manually. Here is the command:
Installing Adobe Reader On Ubuntu Mate
I have just installed adobe acrobat reader latest version using wine and I noticed that there are no text entry fields anywhere. Originally, the text labels were not visible as well but I managed to make them work by installing windows 7 fonts as proposed on another thread. Now I'm stuck with these blank text boxes everywhere which restricts me from opening password-protected documents as it doesn't show the text entry field box.
You can now start using Foxit PDF reader to manager your PDF files on your Ubuntu 20.04.Uninstall Foxit PDF Reader UbuntuDo you want to uninstall Foxit PDF reader? Simply run the Uninstall.desktop script. The script is located in the installation folder your set while installing it. For example, in our setup, you would simply run the command;/opt/foxitsoftware/foxitreader/Uninstall.desktopThat marks the end of our guide on how to install Foxit PDF reader on Ubuntu 20.04.
Hi Markerov. I recommend installing it to /opt/ directory to keep the file system organized. You can see from the tutorial screenshot that I specify /opt/foxitsoftware/fixitreader as the installation directory. You can delete /home/username/opt/ and start the Foxit installation over again.
Unfortunately, Foxit Reader is no longer being updated for Linux, and it has never worked properly on Ubuntu 20.04. (Nor, do I find, on Debian 11). Here is their official statement: -document-format-pdf-tools/foxit-reader/183039-foxit-reader-freeze-on-ubuntu-20-04?p=183041#post183041
Adobe Acrobat is a family of application software and Web services developed by Adobe Systems to view, create, manipulate, print and manage files in Portable Document Format. In this tutorial, we will cover the installation of adobe reader on Linuxmint 18.3
There are some other changes, of course, but it's always best to read about them from the source so if desired, you can read about everything new with this release here: -mate.org/blog/ubuntu-mate-disco-final-release/
Why not use Adobe Acrobat Reader DC ( -and-productivity/pdf-readers-and-editors/adobe-acrobat-reader-dc). As I know you can install adn run it on Linux as well as on Windows or I am wrong? It is simple to use and works with PDF files without limits.
Now, I will not go through the whole process but I will show several important steps. First, a step where it will ask you if you want to Download Updates while installing ubuntu mate and to Install Third Party Software. I checked both and clicked continue. You do not have to check both but that is up to you.
Now, when you get to this stage it will ask you how you want to install ubuntu mate onto your computer. First it will ask you if you want to erase your entire disk and install ubuntu (DO THIS IF YOU ONLY WANT UBUNTU ON YOUR COMPUTER, OTHERWISE YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO USE WINDOWS BECAUSE IT WILL BE DELETED). The second option is to Encrypt Ubuntu Mate for security which will require to type in a security key in the next step. The third option is that you will use Ubuntu Mate for LVM (Logical Volume Management) for easier partition resizing of files and for taking snapshots. The final and last option is that if you want to create and resize the partitions yourself. The option I picked was Erase disk and Install Ubuntu Mate because I am gonna use this laptop as my linux device and clicked Install Now. Whichever option you pick is up to you.
